This article reports a Parse research study on the experience of trusting another with 10 participants living in community. The central finding of this study is the structure: The lived experience of trusting another is cherishing alliances arising with uplifting lightness in pressing on resolutely with potential adversity. The findings are discussed in relation to the humanbecoming school of thought and related literature.

The purpose of this study was to answer the research question: What is the structure of the lived experience of taking a risk? The participants were 9 persons from the general population. The Parse research method, a phenomenological-hermeneutic method, was used to discover the structure of taking a risk. Through the process of extraction-synthesis three core concepts were identified: venturing forth amid potential peril, apprehension with elation, novel engagements. Thus, for these 9 individuals the lived experience of taking a risk is venturing forth amid potential peril, as apprehension with elation surfaces in novel engagements. Taking a risk will be discussed in relation to the principles and concepts of the theory of humanbecoming and in relation to how it can inform nursing practice and future research. This study was also the means for introducing the Parse research method to 10 research assistants interested in learning more about the theory of humanbecoming and the Parse research methodology.

Public health nursing interventions to promote quality of life in older adult populations: A systematic review

This review analyzes how nurse-led public health interventions promote quality of life (QoL) among older populations. Using Medline and Cinahl databases, authors completed a systematic review of experimental and quasi-experimental studies published between January 2010 and March 2016 that described interventions used by public health nurses to address health needs of older adult populations. Lawton's theoretical QoL concepts and the Public Health Intervention Wheel model, which names interventions at the individual, community and systems levels, were used to interpret results. The 23 studies were widely distributed geographically. Four of Lawton's theoretical QoL domains (Health, Functional Health, Personal Competency, Psychological Well-Being) were addressed in the majority of studies. Although public health nurses used Wheel interventions at all levels of practice, individual level interventions were featured in studies to a greater extent in comparison to community and systems level interventions. Few studies used QoL measures to determine intervention effectiveness. Nurses should consider QoL domains, as they design individual, community, and systems level interventions to improve the health of older adult populations.
