The Hysteresis Performance and Restoring Force Model for Corroded Reinforced Concrete Frame Columns

Abstract: A numerical simulation of the hysteresis performance of corroded reinforced concrete (RC) frame columns was conducted. Moreover, the results obtained were compared with experimental data. On this basis, a degenerated three-linearity (D-TRI) restoring force model was established which could reflect the hysteresis performance of corroded RC frame columns through theoretical analysis and data fitting. Results indicated that the hysteretic bearing capacity of frame columns decreased significantly due to corrosion … Show more

“…e model can automatically consider the biaxial or three-axis stress state of the material unit and calculate the degradation in the materials during stress under the condition of only inputting uniaxial stress-strain parameters and damage parameters of the material. erefore, the model can re ect the mechanical response of the material more truthfully in the process of monotonic loading and repeated loading/unloading [4].…”

“…Once the rebar in the concrete is corroded, the corrosion rate of the steel is further increased. Corrosion will lead to the degradation of the geometric parameters of steel and mechanical properties, mainly reflected in the following [2][3][4]: (1) loss of mass and effective cross-sectional area; (2) the decline of nominal yield stress and ultimate stress; (3) the decrease of the nominal elongation rate and ultimate strain; and (4) the degradation of bond-slip. Degradation of these properties will inevitably weaken the static bearing capacity of the structure to a certain extent and increase its brittleness.…”

“…In order to develop a seismic computation analysis of structures during earthquakes, it is necessary to establish an accurate restoring force model of the structure members that is able to reflect the change of structural mechanical properties, such as the strength and stiffness degradation, and the reduction of ductility or the energy-dissipating capacity during an earthquake. The restoring force model consists of the skeleton curve and the hysteresis rule of members [18,19].…”

“…With the increase of service years, under the induction of external corrosion factors, the material of reinforced concrete frame structure will deteriorate [5][6][7][8], resulting in the durability damage (such as surface cracks [9], carbonization, spalling, and steel corrosion [10]). Among which, the corrosion of steel bar is regarded as the prime factor that affecting the durability of concrete structures [11][12][13].…”
