TheSrb1+1050TAllele Is Associated with Metabolic Syndrome in Children but Not with Cholesteryl Ester Plasma Concentrations of High-Density Lipoprotein Subclasses

Abstract: Srb1 +1050T was associated with metabolic syndrome, but T carrier subjects did not show important differences concerning HDL subclasses as compared to noncarriers.

“…Table 3 Cholesterol-and triglycerides-to-phospholipids plasma concentration ratios of HDL subclasses in the studied groups. subclasses is a better indicator of the absolute concentrations of these particles and is useful for estimating the composition of HDL [12,13,33]. The cholesterol-to-phospholipids ratio of HDL subclasses is an indicator of the cholesterol content of these lipoproteins [13].…”

“…No differences were observed in the CAC <25th group compared with the CAC ¼ 0 group. Given that the plasma concentrations of the phospholipids of HDL subclasses may be markers of the numbers of lipoprotein particles [12,13], it may be that subjects with high levels of calcification had lower plasma levels of HDL particles than subjects with low levels or subjects without detectable coronary calcification. This interpretation of the data is consistent with previous reports suggesting that low numbers of HDL particles, as determined by RMN, are a predictor of CAD [4], and contributes further to our knowledge in this field, as we demonstrated that low levels of HDL particles are detectable during the asymptomatic stages of atherosclerosis.…”

“…Plasma total cholesterol, triglyceride, and phospholipid concentrations corresponding to each HDL subclass were estimated as previously described . The mean intra‐assay variations in the relative proportions of the five HDL subclasses were 6.9 and 5.6% for cholesterol and for the phospholipids, respectively, as previously reported .…”

“…The scavenger receptor Class-B member 1 (SRB1) is a type-II double-pass transmembrane receptor for high-density lipoproteins (HDL) in liver, placenta, adrenal and steroidogenic tissues [47]. The SRB1 receptor attaches to cholesterol and sphingomyelin domains of the bilipid cell membrane.…”
