The Identification of Balinese Scripts' Characters based on Semantic Feature and K Nearest Neighbor

Abstract: Papyrus script is a cultural heritage in Bali. As we know, that the papyrus is a cultural matter which is rich in valuable cultural values. Issues or problems encountered today is that the papyrus are not well maintained. Thus, many papyrus becomes damaged because it is not stored properly. Papyrus script was written using Balinese script's characters which having different features compared with Latin's characters. Balinese script can be recognized with feature extraction owned by each Balinese script. KNN is… Show more

“…The K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) algorithm is a method for carrying out the object classification process where the results of a new object sample are taken based on the majority of which are close to the old object in question. The purpose of the KNN algorithm [25]- [27] is to classify new objects based on characteristics and training data [14]. The KNN algorithm performs the work process based on the shortest distance from the new object data to the old object data to determine the KNN value as the predictive value of the new instance value.…”

“…Semantic features are used to look for semantic characteristics of Balinese characters such as number of black strokes, loops, endpoints, character lengths, character widths and openings of characters. From the pixels formed to a vector, it can be seen that the stroke of the pixel will form an image of the Balinese script character [7]. 0 0 2 2 1 0 2 3 0 3 3 1 0 0 2 2 1 0 1 4 1 3 2 1 0 0 1 1 1 2 2 3 2 1 2 1 0 0 1 1 1 2 3 2 1 1 2 1 0 0 1 1 1 2 2 2 1 1 2 1 0 0 1 2 1 2 2 2 1 1 2 1 0 0 1 1 1 2 1 3 1 2 …”

“…Wrésastra script is a Balinese script that popularly referred to as anacaraka consisting of 18 characters as shown in Figure 1. [2] based on the special characteristics of Balinese script. A study that provides an overview of the special feature extraction of Balinese script using the zoning method also has been carried out [3].…”
