The immunomodulatory effects of Carapax Trionycis ultrafine powder on cyclophosphamide‐induced immunosuppression in Balb/c mice

Abstract: BACKGROUND There are abundant resources of Carapax Trionycis from soft‐shelled turtle processing wastes each year in China. Our preliminary work showed that Carapax Trionycis ultrafine powder (CTUP) obtained using ball‐milling with a particle size of 2.24 μm (D0.025) contained more active ingredients. The CTUP D0.025 has a good bioaccessibility, but there has been no report about the immunomodulatory function of CTUP. Therefore, using a cyclophosphamide‐induced immunosuppression mice model, we investigated the… Show more

“…Our results showed that CTX significantly reduced body weight as compared to the control ( Figure 4 , P < 0.01). This finding is consistent with previous reports that the body weight can reflect the immunosuppression mice's growth status ( 15 , 30 ). MRP treatment significantly increased the final average body weight of mice relative to the model ( Figure 4A , P < 0.01), indicating that MRP could attenuate CTX-induced body weight loss.…”

“…The immune system comprises immune organs, cells, and immune-reactive substances, which play vital roles in the host’s defense against foreign pathogens and microorganisms ( 1 3 ). The interaction between the natural and specific immune systems is necessary to maintain host health, and therefore, infections and various diseases will occur when the immune system is dysfunctional or impaired ( 4 ).…”

“…Moreover, cyclophosphamide, a chemotherapy drug, was reported to cause immunosuppression and osteoporosis. Improving the functional status of immune cells alleviates the symptoms of osteoporosis in the immunosuppressive mouse model induced by cyclophosphamide ( 114 ), suggesting the function of immune cells may be an important factor in cyclophosphamide-induced osteoporosis.…”
