The impact of administration of Annona muricata leaf on estrogen and progesterone functions following mercury-induced toxicity in adult female Wistar rats

Abstract

Context: Aloe vera with one of the Acemannan compounds has antimicrobial effects against resistant microorganisms such as Enterococcus faecalis found in pulp chambers. E. faecalis is a facultative anaerobic microorganism commonly found in asymptomatic and persistent endodontic infections. Acemannan can be used as an alternative antibacterial agent that replaces chemicals because it is safe, without side effects and cheaper. Aims: to determine the biocompatibility effect of Acemannan as a root canal filler against the growth of E. faecalis bacteria in vivo on rat teeth. Methods: True experimental design with a post-test only control design research design, in this study there are two groups, each of which is randomLy selected. Followed by anti-bacterial activity test, anti-inflammatory test and toxicity test. Results: Anti-bacterial tests showed the MIL value was determined through the tube dilution method, began to appear clear at a concentration of 300 μg/mL. The MKR value indicates no bacterial colonies growing at an Acemannan solution concentration of 400 μg / mL. Anti-inflammatory tests showed the average amount of TNF-α expression in the MTA paste and Acemannan paste groups on days 1 and 7 decreased. Toxicity tests showed the highest average amount of caspase-9 expression was found in the Acemannan treatment group. Conclusion: The increasing concentration of Acemannan, the number of E. faecalis colonies decreased, there was an effect of giving Acemannan paste on TNF-α and caspase-9 expression in the periapical tissue of white rat teeth given Acemannan paste.
