“…Conceptual models describing the relationship between trauma and sexual risk behavior have focused primarily on sexual abuse; for example, the traumagenic dynamics framework posits that abuse may harm the development of positive relationship dynamics, self‐esteem and mental health, and that these elements may then shape sexual behavior . In studies conducted in a variety of populations, sexual abuse and other childhood traumatic experiences have been associated with depression, drug use, relationship dynamics and intimate partner violence (IPV), as well as involvement in the sex trade . In turn, these experiences are strong correlates of RAI among women, suggesting their potential as pathways linking trauma to later RAI.…”
