Abstract: Background and AimsChronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection can lead to cirrhosis, development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and several extrahepatic manifestations. A sustained virological response (SVR) is achieved with direct-acting antivirals (DAA) in over 95% of the patients, but sequelae do not improve in all patients, suggesting permanent biological alterations induced by HCV infection.
