“…Figures 9-11show the dimensionless moisture content distribution inside ellipsoids with aspect ratios b/a = 1.1; 2.0 and 5.0 as a function of the cylindrical coordinates (r, z), during the first continuous drying period in two dimensionless times: Fo=0.006 and 0.015.It was verified in all three cases the existance of high moisture content gradientes near the solid surface, at the beginning of the drying process. The regions where the higher moisture contentgradients are found, correspond to the areas with the highest water loss. These areas also present high temperature gradients. These effects raise the thermal, hydraulic and mechanical stresses and, consequently, the appearance of cracks and deformations in the product, compromising its final quality.Similareffetcs were observed by [9,28,31,32].Comparing Figures 9-11 it was possible to verify that the aspect ratio (shape of solid) directly influences in the drying kinetics. The lower the aspect ratio, the faster the solid will dry before the temperingperiodbegins.…”

“…With the advent of widespread dissemination of endoscopic surgery techniques, the use of endoscopes in middle ear surgery has become common. The primary benefit is improved visualization of structures not easily seen with a microscope (9). Because the microscope only provides the surgeon a line of sight, using a beam of light perpendicular to the structures, the deeper located and angled recesses are not easily reached.…”

“…The possibility of approaching and magnifying tiny structures, and "looking around corners" ensures a better visualization of the inaccessible compartments, such as the facial nerve recess and tympanic sinus (8). It increases the resolution for the removal of covert keratin fragments, potentially reducing the incidence of residual disease in cholesteatoma surgery (9,10).…”
