The Impact of Government Behaviors on the Transition Towards Carbon Neutrality in the Construction Industry: A Perspective of the Whole Life Cycle of Buildings

Abstract: The carbon-intensive economy has dramatically caused global climate changes and profoundly impacted humankind. As one of the largest energy consumers, carbon emissions in the construction industry (CECI) play a crucial role in achieving the carbon neutrality goal. Government behaviors could significantly affect CECI. However, few studies have comprehensively reviewed existing literature regarding the effect of government instruments on triggering carbon reduction. A total of 1,082 papers about CECI from 51 cou… Show more

“…The search results showed that the number of bibliometric studies in envi-ronmental science increased from 7 in 2005 to 1027 in 2022. Among all these bibliometric studies in environmental science, nine of them focused on carbon neutrality in the building sector [31], in the construction industry [32], from the global health perspective [33], from the forest management perspective [34], research changes due to the COVID-19 [35], and in a general sense [36][37][38][39]. Additionally, there was another bibliometric study on climate change that has implications on carbon neutrality [40].…”

“…However, in reality, governments, enterprises, and the public make significant but subtle contributions to the output of scientific papers. Some studies have specifically examined the influence and role of governments in the formulation of policies related to energy, construction, and carbon neutrality [43][44][45][46]. There is also literature that specifically studies the relationship between the public, government, and research institutions [47].…”

“…The carbon-intensive economy has significantly impacted global climate change and has deeply affected humanity [1]. The transportation sector is a significant contributor to global carbon emissions [2], and the shift towards sustainable and low-carbon transportation solutions has become imperative to mitigate climate change [3].…”
