The Impact of High-Speed Rail on Regional Green Innovation Performance-Based on the Dual Perspective of High-Speed Rail Opening and High-Speed Rail Network

Abstract: Based on the panel data of 108 cities in the Yangtze River Economic Belt from 2009 to 2019, this study combines the difference-in-differences (DID) method with the mediation effect model to examine the impact of the opening of high-speed rail (HSR) on regional green innovation performance. It is found that the opening of HSR has significantly improved the regional green innovation performance, and this boosting effect shows an increasing trend over the years. In addition, the impact of the opening of HSR on re… Show more

“…Zhou's research found that the opening of the HSR had significantly improved the city's green innovation performance, and that this boosting effect is increasing yearly. At the same time, the connection breadth of the HSR network has a positive impact on the city's green innovation performance [10]. From the perspective of the mobility of innovation factors, Huang verified that HSRs promote the flow of innovation factors and, thus, contribute to the efficiency of green innovation.…”

“…Can studying the economics of high-speed rail provide policy support for sustainable regional economic growth, as well as carbon reduction initiatives? Unfortunately, there are not many studies of this nature in the academic field, Rather, the emphasis is placed on the perspectives of green total factor productivity [6,7], regional economic growth [8,9], innovation performance [10][11][12] and carbon emissions [13,14]. In recent years, there has been a growing emphasis among scholars on the importance of transportation accessibility (connectivity) for regional economic development, surpassing the traditional focus on transportation infrastructure.…”
