Due to the increased emission of harmful exhaust components, in particular CO2 (carbon dioxide), CO (carbon monoxide), THC (total hydrocarbons), by motor vehicles, especially in the centres of urban agglomerations, it is necessary to create traffic simulation models that allow to estimate the emissions from road transport. One of the places where the largest accumulation of vehicles in cities occurs are intersections. This contributes to increasing the number of stops and repetitions of the acceleration and braking cycle, which has a direct impact on vehicle emissions. At the same time, roundabouts are intersections with specific traffic movement characteristics, therefore it is necessary to calibrate the simulation model beforehand. The aim of the study was to develop a methodology for modeling vehicle traffic at the roundabout and compare the combustion engines emissions resulting from vehicle movement on the example of the selected roundabout case studies. Vehicle traffic modeling was performed in the Vissim traffic microsimulation program based on real data. The comparison concerned the emissions for a two-lane and a turbo roundabout for the assumed traffic volume scenarios for properly calibrated simulation models. The results show that the performance of the simulation allows for the analysis of emissions and determination of its size for each of the roundabout inlets. It is also possible to determine the general dependencies e.g. the length of the queue of vehicles in relation to the emission of the analysed exhaust components. The analysis can be used as an introduction to changes in the guides for designing road intersections concerning vehicle emissions.

The article presents the results of measurements of concentrations of selected exhaust components of the Fiat 0.9 TwinAir spark-ignition engine operating according to load characteristics. The tested engine has an indirect, multi-point petrol supply system and has been retrofitted with an indirect CNG injection system. The results of the tests are a comparison of selected economic, ecological and energetic indicators of engine operation obtained when fuelled with CNG and 95 octane petrol. The operation of the engine fuelled with gaseous fuel was preceded by autocalibration of the controller of the fuelling system. The article presents the results of tests of concentrations of harmful components of exhaust gases: carbon dioxide CO2, carbon monoxide CO, nitrogen oxides NOx and HC hydrocarbons. Moreover, the values of lambda λ air excess coefficient are presented and fuel consumption is compared. The obtained results of the tests of the engine fuelled with CNG gas show a significant decrease in the value of the obtained torque in comparison to the engine torque when fuelled with petrol. The engine fuelled with compressed natural gas contributed to the improvement of its ecological properties and a reduction of fuel consumption, which are important factors of ecological and energy safety. Exhaust gas analysis showed a reduction in the concentration of harmful components of exhaust gases, mainly hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides. A positive effect of the operation of the engine powered by CNG was also a significant reduction of carbon dioxide in the exhaust gases compared to the engine powered with gasoline.

The paper presents the results of the research on the uniqueness of the combustion process in the Perkins 1104D-E44TA engine already equipped with a Common Rail injection system, and then adapted on an engine test stand to dual-fuel operation. The result of the combustion process is an indicator diagram. The combustion process in the cylinder of the tested engine was evaluated by determining the uniqueness indicators of subsequent operating cycles, such as: the uniqueness indicator for the maximum pressure of the operating cycle, the uniqueness indicator for the mean indicated pressure, the uniqueness indicator for the indicated diagram and the uniqueness indicator for the partial indicator diagram. The conducted tests and the analysis of the results showed the impact of dual-fuel power supply of the tested engine on the combustion process, as compared to supplying the engine only with diesel fuel, for which it has been optimized.
