The role of databases is to allow for the persistence of data, no matter if they are of the SQL or NoSQL type. In SQL databases, data are structured in a set of tables in the relational database model, grouped in rows and columns. CRUD operations (create, read, update, and delete) are used to manage the information contained in relational databases. Several dialects of the SQL language exist, as well as frameworks for mapping Java classes (models) to a relational database. The question is what we should choose for our Java application, and why? A comparison of the most frequently used relational database management systems, mixed with the most frequently used frameworks should give us some guidance about when to use what. The evaluation is conducted based on the time taken for each CRUD operation to run, from thousands to hundreds of thousands of entries, using the possible combinations in the relational database system and the framework. Aiming to assess and improve the performance, the experiments included the possibility of warming-up the Java Virtual Machine before the execution of queries. Also, the research investigated the time spent using different methods of code to determine the critical regions (bottlenecks). Thus, the conclusions provide a comprehensive overview of the performances of Java applications accessing databases depending on the suite decisions considering the database type, the framework in use, and the type of operation, with clear comparisons between the alternatives, the key findings of the advantages and drawbacks of each of them, and supporting architects and developers in their technological decisions and improving the speed of their programs.

The Data Access Tier, also known as the Data Access Layer (DAL), is a specific tier within the 3-tier architecture or other software architectural patterns. The interaction between the application's business logic and the underlying data storage or database is managed by it. This pattern provides an abstraction layer that encapsulates the logic required to access and manipulate data in a data storage system. This paper demonstrates the related work that happened in the past regarding the generation of the data tier in between the business layer and the actual Database of the MVC/MVT architecture for faster software development. This study will go further into the imbalance of impedance among programming languages that are object-oriented and relational databases. It also elaborates on many researchers' perspectives on this topic using the ORM tool to generate such an ORM tier. Also, this paper illustrates the different shortcomings of this ORM tier. Pointing out the various approaches to data access layer generation, from databases to programming languages. Pinpointing the pitfalls of the researcher's work and how the researcher has presented their research paper. This paper will also suggest one of the proposed modules to overcome the shortcomings of the ORM tier. The proposed module has two approaches to generating the Data Access tier: reverse engineering, which means mapping from table to code, and Forward engineering, which means generating code first and then creating databases from the code.

Aplikasi Point of Sale merupakan aplikasi yang menangani suatu kegiatan transaksi penjualan dan pembelian suatu produk. Pada penelitian ini aplikasi Point of Sale berbasis android tersebut dikembangkan dengan menggunakan pendekatan Object Relational Mapping untuk mengatasi (Impedance Mismacth) dan meningkatkan produktifitas, performa dan maintainability sistem. Sehingga penerapan pendekatan Object Relational Mapping tersebut perlu dilakukan evaluasi untuk mengukur kualitas suatu sistem. ISO/IEC 25010 merupakan salah satu standar pengukuran sistem internasional yang memiliki 6 karakteristik pengukuran salah satu nya adalah pengukuran Performance Efficiency (Efisiensi Kinerja) suatu sistem. Performance Efficiency (Efisiensi Kinerja) memilik 3 sub karakteristik yaitu Time Behavior (Perilaku Waktu), Resource Utilization (Pemanfaatan Sumber Daya), dan Capacity (Kapasitas). Web API Point Of Sale yang menerapkan pendekatan Object Relational Mapping (ORM) telah memenuhi standar Performance Efficiency (Efisiensi Kinerja) yang lebih baik di bandingkan dengan Web API yang tidak menggunakan pendekatan Object Relational Mapping dengan rata-rata selisih response time 14.8 milisecond ketika di uji per 1 user. Dan memiliki rata-rata response time yang lebih cepat dan throughput yang lebih tinggi ketika di uji dengan banyak user secara bersamaan.
