The impact of sulfur precipitation in developing a sour gas reservoir with pressure-sensitive effects

Abstract: During the development of high sulfur gas fields, gaseous sulfur is likely to precipitate and deposit in the reservoirs due to the changes of temperature, pressure, and gas compositions. Therefore, how to establish an accurate prediction model of elemental sulfur solubility in gas mixtures is a key issue. At present, most scholars use Roberts elemental sulfur solubility model (SPE Reserv. Eng. 1997, 12(2): 118-123) to describe the damage caused by sulfur deposition in high-sulfur gas reservoirs. However, some … Show more

“…An effective permeability-based gas injectivity is a general way to evaluate the capacity of gas injection in oil and gas reservoirs (Hu et al, 2017;Ru et al, 2019;Yu et al, 2019). In this stage, the CMG STARS software is employed to couple the analytical models to evaluate gas injectivity in lean zones.…”

“…Their model incorporated the gas non-Darcy seepage law and sulfur deposition theory in porous media. Ru et al (2019) established a one-dimensional radial production model using the Hu’s model . Shao et al (2021) presented a semianalytical coupled reservoir/well bore model for horizontal wells in sulfur gas reservoirs .…”

“…Therefore, the gas-water saturation in the fracture system can be established as a function of gas-water production with time. Given the characteristics of abnormal overpressure in this area, the stress sensitivity in this area cannot be ignored [36,54,55]. Therefore, the stress-sensitive model was considered in the dynamic relative permeability function.…”
