The impact of the omics era on the knowledge and use ofLysobacterspecies to control phytopathogenic micro-organisms

Abstract: Omics technologies have had a tremendous impact on underinvestigated genera of plant disease biocontrol agents such as Lysobacter. Strong evidence of the association between Lysobacter spp. and the rhizosphere has been obtained through culture-independent methods, which has also contributed towards highlighting the relationship between Lysobacter abundance and soil suppressiveness. It is conceivable that the role played by Lysobacter spp. in soil suppressiveness is related to their ability to produce an impres… Show more

“…The genera exclusive for the agricultural soil were Lysobacter and Aeromicrobium . The genus Lysobacter is commonly found in agricultural soils [52], and their abundance is strongly modulated by soil type and negatively affected by low pH [53, 54]. Liming is a common agricultural practice in tropical croplands to increase soil pH [55] and is also typically applied in the region in Colombia where the agricultural soil used in our study was collected.…”

“…The genus Lysobacter ( Christensen and Cook, 1978 ) consists of bacteria isolated from various environments like freshwater, agricultural soils and plant rhizosphere ( Reichenbach, 2006 ; Puopolo et al, 2018 ). Notably, the occurrence of bacterial strains belonging to the species L. antibioticus , L. capsici , and L. gummosus in clay agricultural soils, was related to the disease suppressiveness against R. solani ( Postma et al, 2008 , 2010 ).…”

“…Production of lytic enzymes and antibiotics is also typical of the predation implemented by BCAs belonging to the genus Lysobacter (Puopolo et al 2018). Thus, L. capsici AZ78 is able to colonize Ph.…”
