The Impact of the Surrounding Land Uses on Water Quality of Some Selected Cascade and Perennial Tanks in Anuradhapura District, Sri Lanka

Abstract: The present study was conducted to evaluate the water quality of the inlet, irrigation outlet, and edges linked to Nuwarawewa reservoir, Mahakanadarawa reservoir, Hurulu wewa reservoir, Sangilikandarawa reservoir, and Nachchaduwa perennial reservoir in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. Water samples were taken from a designated position of each inlet, irrigation output, and edges in the second inter-monsoon, northeast monsoon, and first inter-monsoon seasons. Water quality indicators such as pH, electrical conductivity… Show more

“…Despite the acquired knowledge regarding the dimensions and growth stages of Oreochromis niloticus, a multitude of factors intrinsic to the ecology of Mahakanadarawa freshwater dynamism remains to be investigated. Further research orientations might duly consider the contributions of such growth patterns to population and yield modulations across the seasonal and annual spectrums, as well as their interaction with environmental and anthropogenic variables, such as the influence of surrounding land uses on water quality, which inextricably affect the vitality and viability of fisheries subsystems (Herath et al 2022).…”

“…[1][2][3] The toxic heavy metals mercury (Hg(II)) and cadmium (Cd(II)) in their +2 oxidation state can seriously harm the human central nervous system (CNS), skin, muscle tissue (Hg(II)), bones, blood plasma, cardiovascular system (Cd(II)), renal system, and gastrointestinal tract. [4][5][6] According to the United States (US) Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR). 7 For instance, mercury has widespread industrial applications like lamps, batteries, thermometers, and electrolytic manufacture in chlorine and sodium hydroxide.…”
