The Impact of Tourism on Ecosystem Services Value: A Spatio-Temporal Analysis Based on BRT and GWR Modeling

Abstract: The healthy development of the ecosystem and tourism in destinations plays an essential role in sustainable development. Taking Shennongjia as an example, we analyzed the spatial–temporal variation in the ecosystem services value (ESV) and investigated the impacts of tourism on ESV and their spatial heterogeneity using the geographically weighted regression (GWR) and boosting regression tree (BRT) models. The results showed that (1) the types of ecosystem services (ESs) were dominated by climate regulation and… Show more

“…Traditional regression methods, such as the ordinary least squares (OLS) regression method, are global statistics, which assume that the relationships under study are constant over space. In contrast to a global model, GWR permits the relationships between the dependent variable and independent variables to vary spatially [39]. At present, this method has been widely used in spatial data analysis in geography, the environment, meteorology and other fields.…”

“…The accuracy of the analysis results is higher, and the degree of agreement with the objective reality is higher. At present, the GWR model is widely used in many aspects of geography and related spatial analysis [94][95][96][97][98][99]. The GWR model was as follows [95,100].…”

“…Exploring the impact of tourism on ecosystems is essential for the sustainable development of agricultural heritage sites. Previous studies have predominantly examined the impact of tourism on heritage sites [42,51]. This study, however, explores how various tourism models affect the ecosystem service value (ESV) of villages, which are fundamental elements of heritage sites.…”
