Objectives: By analyzing students' translations, instructors teaching translation can acquire insight into the most common concerns, challenges, and strategies regarding various subjects. This study aims to uncover the methods and techniques students use to translate journalistic, literary, and political materials and the differences in translation strategies used by male and female students. Methods: Twenty-seven male and female 4th-grade students from the Department of English, Colleges of Basic Education, University of Kirkuk participated. The research will be carried out during the first semester of the academic year 2022-2023. A test was used to collect the data. The test consisted of three questions, all of which were texts: journalistic, literary, and political. Results: The results reveal that students adopt low-accuracy translation procedures. Students use the trans-position method more than other translation procedures when translating a journalistic text. Regarding the literary text, the results show that students preferred the adaptation technique above the different translation strategies. Finally, the Political text was translated using a borrowing and adaption technique. Furthermore, the findings demonstrated that female EFL students used more accurate and precise translation procedures than male students. Conclusion: Translation strategies must be thoroughly taught to EFL students. They must be knowledgeable about translation theories and strategies and the types of texts they may be exposed to. They must also be taught the purpose of employing a specific translation technique. It is essential to note that the borrowing strategy should be used with caution, as it can lead to linguistic interference and can sometimes be confusing for native speakers of the target language.

The safe system approach is considered the best practice. Different international organizations highly recommend the implementation of such an approach to significantly improve their road safety performance. The safe system has become a normative approach, a way of thinking. It rests upon different pillars, which represent the framework to be implemented. Among the different dimensions, the management pillar is crucial, which calls for a detailed investigation. First, the aim of this contribution is to understand the implications and requirements of implementing a safe system management model (SSMM). This contribution presents this model and challenges its aims and its limits, especially the promoted management framework. Six main limits of the SSMM are discussed. The different limits of the SSMM emphasize the importance of thinking about singularities and contingencies of the institutional order as well as considering and understanding the context in which a policy is implemented. Second, this contribution proposes an alternative conceptual approach applied to the managerial dimension of the road safety system. It develops the institutional-strategy-environment (ISE) model for elaborating road safety public strategy. This conceptual elaboration is based both on a proven theoretical corpus and on numerous field observations, and expert activities carried out in various countries. The ISE dimensions are essential because they are seldom discussed, even though they are the underpinning of more and more public road safety policies. In this respect, this contribution proposes an alternative approach by considering these three interdependent dimensions. The institutional dimension rests upon a layered approach, while strategy is considered with an adapted SWOT matrix. The environmental dimension is assessed with a Pestel model. The application of such an approach to the road safety field and to test its explanatory power is particularly challenging but opens new avenues for implementing road safety public policy.

There exists paramount importance of traffic signs in ensuring road safety and efficiency, emphasizing their role in communicating vital informa- tion and regulations, transcending language barriers, and aiding drivers in navigating roads and avoiding potential dangers. In light of this significance, our study focuses on harnessing object detection technology, specifically ap- plied to traffic signs, with the goal of accident prevention and enhanced road safety. The dataset employed for our research is Road Sign Detection, and this paper has implemented the latest YOLOv8 versions and YOLO-NAS-l for object detection. Notably, this work achieved impressive mAP50 values, with YOLOv8m at 94.3%, YOLOv8x at 91.9%, YOLOv8l at 92%, YOLOv8s at 94.9%, and YOLOv8n at 95.3%. However, the best results were obtained by YOLO-NAS-l, with an outstanding mAP50 score of 95.72%. In addition to these individual results, this work conducted a comprehensive comparative study, demonstrating that our model leads to an 8% increase in performance over existing approaches. This paper is of great significance as it addresses a critical aspect of road safety and presents a cutting-edge solution that not only outperforms previous models but also sets a new standard for the industry. This research holds the potential to substantially reduce road accidents and enhance overall road safety, making it an invaluable contribution to the field of computer vision and its practical applications in the real world.
