Workload can be defined as the difference between a worker's ability and job demands. Based on observations that have been made, it is known that madukismo sugar companies get an increasing demand value in each season of production, so this causes an increase in the number of working hours that apply to the company, which has the potential to increase their mental work. This study investigated the mechanical mental workload of workers at Madukismo Sugar Company using the NASA-TLX method, a multidimensional assessment tool. The NASA-TLX method is a multidimensional assessment method that can measure the overall mental workload to determine the mental workload felt by each worker. The results indicate a very high mental workload in some operators and suggest the need for operational adjustments. The recommendations are additional manpower and improved ergonomic levels to reduce stress and increase productivity. Keywords: Mental Workload, NASA-TLX, Job Demands

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to investigate the research landscape of LSS 4.0 papers published in two well-known repositories, Scopus and Web of Science (WoS), in terms of publication trends, article distribution by author, journal, affiliations and country, and article clustering based on keywords, authors and countries. In addition, a literature review was carried out to build a conceptual framework of integrated Lean Six Sigma and Industry 4.0 (LSS 4.0) that encompasses operational, sustainability and human factors or ergonomics aspects.Design/methodology/approachThe literature review of integrated Lean Six Sigma and I4.0 publications published in Scopus and WoS databases in the current decade was conducted for the present study. This study categorizes LSS, I4.0 and related research articles based on publication patterns, journals, authors and affiliations, country and continental-wise distribution and clustering the articles based on keywords and authors from the Scopus and WoS databases from 2011 to 2022 using the search strings “Lean”, “Six Sigma”, “Lean Six Sigma” and “Industry 4.0” in the Title, Abstract and Keywords using Biblioshiny, VOS viewer and Microsoft Excel.FindingsIn the recent three years, from 2020 to 2022, LSS 4.0 has been substantially increasing and is seen as an emerging and trending area. This research identifies the most influential authors, most relevant affiliations, most prolific countries and most productive journals and clusters based on keywords, authors and countries. Further, a conceptual framework was developed that includes the impact of operational, sustainability and ergonomic or human factors in LSS 4.0.Research limitations/implicationsThis article assists in comprehending the trends and patterns of LSS 4.0. Further, the conceptual framework helps professionals and researchers understand the significance and impact of integrating LSS and Industry 4.0 in the aspects of human factors/ergonomic, sustainability and operations. Also, the research induce professionals to incorporate all these factors while designing and implementing LSS 4.0 in their organization.Originality/valueThis conceptual framework and bibliometric analysis would aid in identifying potential areas of research and providing future directions in the domain of LSS 4.0. It will be beneficial for academicians, professionals and researchers who are planning to apply and integrate techniques of LSS and technologies of I4.0 in their organizations and research.

The use of effective and efficient work methods is one of the factors that needs to be considered by companies to achieve targets, this requires business actors to set standards for effective and efficient work methods. Lilysprei is a medium-enterprise business which produces bedroom equipment made from recycled fabric wastes from textile industries. The issue currently faced by the company is the difficulty of fulfilling its daily sales quota. The of this issue is the delay in the pattern sewing process that often goes beyond the allocated time. If left alone, this delay could lead to an unmet demand from customers which leads to decreasing demand in the future. In consequence to this, a reconstruction on the working method is needed in order to improve the business’ efficiency and effectivity. The purpose of this study is to identify work movements, identify work methods and make suggestions for improvements to pattern sewing work stations. The method used in this study is movement economics with right-hand left-hand maps and to analyze operator work movements and design layout improvements and work facilities. Based on the analysis of the right-hand left-hand map, the delay or length of the pattern sewing process is caused by the unbalanced workload of the two hands of the operator and there are unnecessary and time-consuming processes. The design of the layout and work facilities of the pattern sewing work station is to bring the operator's chair closer to the work facility and replace the cloth storage table with the same height as the sewing table to eliminate unnecessary processes and facilitate the movement of both hands and minimize the movement of the operator's neck and body. Abstrak Penggunaan metode kerja yang efektif dan efisien menjadi salah satu faktor yang perlu diperhatian oleh perusahaan untuk tercapainya target, hal itu menuntut para pelaku usaha perlu menetapkan standar metode kerja yang efektif dan efisien. Lilysprei adalah suatu perusahaan menengah yang memproduksi peralatan kamar tidur dengan bahan baku berasal dari limbah kain dari pabrik tekstil yang di daur ulang. Permasalahan yang terjadi pada perusahaan saat ini adalah sulitnya pencapaian target perhari yang telah ditetapkan, dikarenakan ada keterlambatan pengerjaan penjahitan pola yang kerap melebihi waktu penyelesaian yang telah ditentukan. Apabila hal ini terus berlanjut maka akan membuat perusahaan tidak mampu memenuhi permintaan pelanggan dan berimbas pada penurunan permintaan. Oleh karena itu dilakukanlah perbaikan metode kerja dengan tujuan meningkatkan efisiensi dan efektifitas perusahaan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengidentifikasi gerakakerja, mengidentifikasi metode kerja dan membuat usulan perbaikan pada stasiun kerja penjahitan pola. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah Ekonomi gerakan dengan peta tangan kanan-tangan kiri dan untuk menganalisa gerakan kerja operator dan merancang perbaikan layout dan fasilitas kerja. Berdasarkan analisa peta tangan kanan-tangan kiri, keterlambatan atau lamanya proses penjahitan pola disebabkan oleh beban kerja kedua tangan operator tidak seimbang serta terdapat proses-proses yang tidak diperlukan dan memakan banyak waktu. Perancangan layout dan fasilitas kerja stasiun kerja penjahitan pola adalah dengan mendekatkan kursi operator dengan fasilitas kerja serta mengganti meja penyimpanan kain yang sama tinggi dengan meja penjahitan untuk menghilangkan proses yang tidak diperlukan serta mempermudah perpindahan kedua tangan dan meminimasi pergerakan leher serta badan dari operator.
