“…Simplified geological map of the Olkhon Terrane (modified after Fedorovsky et al, 2020). Previous metamorphic P – T estimates are indicated (1‐Sklyarov, Lavrenchuk, Fedorovsky, Gladkochub, et al, 2020; 2‐Li et al, 2009; 3‐Gladkochub, Donskaya, Wingate, et al, 2008; and 4‐Makrygina & Petrova, 1998). …”

“…Previous estimates of the metamorphic conditions in this zone are relatively few owing to the limited presence of mineral assemblages suitable for thermobarometric calculations. Metapelites studied by Makrygina and Petrova (1998) using garnetbiotite thermometry and garnet-aluminosilicateplagioclase barometry revealed peak conditions of approximately 0.60-0.80 GPa and 630-710 C, with higher temperatures (up to 790 C) recorded adjacent to the granite gneiss dome. Li et al (2009) studied the P-T conditions of a garnet-biotite gneiss using garnetbiotite thermometry and garnet-biotite-plagioclasequartz barometry and estimated peak conditions of 770-790 C/0.72-0.74 GPa and retrograde conditions of 710-766 C/0.48-0.52 GPa.…”

“…One of the candidates for the source for the Bana FeO*-Al 2 O 3 -TiO 2 -rich rocks is deepseated high-Ti "metalaterite". Such metalaterite has been reported from South Africa by Beukes et al (2002) and from Russia by Makrygina and Petrova (1998) and from Japan ( Iwao, 1978;Nishio et al , 2003 ). Genetically, it is thought that high rates of heat derived from the rising upper mantle responsible for the lithospheric thinning (extension) and subsequent partial melting facilitated the fusion of the crustal refractory target source.…”

“…On the basis of these results, crystals belonging to the same spinel-magnesiochromite series from the Olkhon metamorphic complex (Lake Baikal, Russia; Makrygina and Petrova 1998) were chosen in order to study their kinetic behavior. The selected crystals are characterized by low (Ch) and high (Sc) Cr 3+ contents, i.e., 0.03-0.06 and 0.24 atoms per four O atoms, respectively.…”
