“…Chronic unpredictable mild stress (CMS) protocols have been developed as validated rodent models for inducing anhedonia and disruptions of HPA function (Castro et al., 2012; Cerqueira, Mailliet, Almeida, Jay, & Sousa, 2007; Moreau, 1997; Ortiz & Conrad, 2018). Experimentally, tactile stimulation, in the form of handling, has previously been reported to decrease behavioral and endocrine markers of chronically stressed rats (Aulich, Spielhofen, & Raaijmakers, 1974; Costa et al., 2020).
