“…The suitability of raw clay deposits for ceramics applications is determined by their physical properties, mineralogy and chemistry (El Ouahabi et al , 2014b; Lisboa et al , 2016; Baghdad et al , 2017; Kharbish & Farhat, 2017; El Boudour El Idrissi et al , 2018). The bulk mineralogical association of the samples studied and the dominance of illite in their clay fractions classify these marls as common clays (Murray, 2007; Keith & Murray, 2009) and endow them with suitable ceramics properties (Ferrari & Gualtieri, 2006; Wattanasiriwech et al , 2009; Baghdad et al , 2017; Mahmoudi et al , 2017).…”

“…Large choice of clays is present in Mzouda site, the potters try to mix the plastic raw material with the non-plastic one. The argillites show various degree of diagenesis from one site to another and this affect their plasticity degree (Idrissi et al, 2018).…”

“…The used methods for X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy and particles size distribution are described in Idrissi et al, (2018). The Atterberg limits was carried out on the fraction of the material passing through the 425µ sieve.…”

“…The latter three The mineralogical constituents of ceramic pastes ranged from clay minerals as plastic and binder components to siliceous sand as skeletal components and finally feldspars and/or fine carbonates as fluxing agents. During the firing process, the main constituents of raw clay underwent phase transformations through decomposition to produce neo-mineralization, like metakaolinite and spinel at about 900 • C [11], as well as mullite, cristobalite, and wollastonite at higher temperatures [36,37]. The presence of smectite in the studied raw materials was expected to increase plasticity and impact the drying and swelling behavior and fired strength of the finished product.…”
