The influence of Finnish sauna treatments on the concentrations of nitric oxide, 3-nitrotyrosine and selected markers of oxidative status in training and non-training men

Abstract: The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of repeated Finnish sauna baths on the concentrations of nitric oxide metabolites (NOx) and 3-nitrotyrosine in relation to pro-oxidative and antioxidative status in young males with different physical activity levels. Material and Methods: The study was performed on healthy males (aged 20-25 years), representing the training (T, N = 10) and non-training groups (NT, N = 10). The protocol included a series of 10 sauna baths during 3 weeks. One bath consisted of th… Show more

“…It has been demonstrated that peroxynitrite reacts readily with iron-sulfur cluster of several enzymes and is able to oxidize the sulfhydryl groups of proteins, leading to the formation of disulfides and resulting in their inactivation [53]. Naturally, it should be remembered that exposure to peroxynitrite entails tyrosine nitration of proteins [54]. This mechanism of amylase inactivation should be eliminated, as increased nitrotyrosine concentration was only observed in NWS and SWS of patients with hyposalivation, both compared to the controls and patients with normal saliva secretion.…”

“…Sauna baths also enhance oxidative balance/antioxidants. It also improves nitric oxide production, which impacts the relaxation process, blood vessels, and blood flow (9). This therapy alternative also evaporates concentration extracted from a plant to boost physical, mental, and emotional (10).…”
