The influence of synthetic food additives and surfactants on the body weight of larvae of Tenebrio molitor (Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae)

Abstract: The broad spectrum of negative effects of food additives and surfactants on living organisms and the environment in general indicate a necessity of a detailed study on this issue. The aim of this article is to evaluate the impact of food additives and surfactants in a concentration of 350 mg/kg of fodder on the body weight of third age Tenebrio molitor Linnaeus, 1758 (Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae) larvae. A significant change in the body weight of T. molitor larvae was observed when they consumed a diet containin… Show more

“…Thus, mixtures of the studied herbicide with food additives allow yeast-like fungi of the Candida genus to colonise the intestine. Discussion Food additives have a significant effect on vital activity of nematodes, intestinal parasites of vertebrates, and also invertebrates which randomly consume food additives in places of accumulation of household and food wastes (Boyko & Brygadyrenko, 2016Martynov & Brygadyrenko, 2017). Non-calorie sweeteners stimulate development of intolerance to glucose through changes in the gut microflora and resulting inflammatory processes in the organs (Suez et al, 2014;Nettleton et al, 2016;Bian et al, 2017).…”

“…Storage pest. Beetles and larvae damage products of grain milling (flour, especially with heighted moisture or fusty groatы and brans), and also grain, rusks, dairy products (macaroni, vermicelli), etc (Martynov and Brygadyrenko, 2017). In the grain, the larvae first consume the embryo, and then the endosperm.…”

“…The shallow water of the cooling pond is satisfactory space for spawning and natural reproduction of certain species of fish, but anthropogenic environmental pollution causes changes in the physiological processes of different groups of living organisms. The most severe changes are observed under the influence of organic compounds, heavy metals and radionuclides (Martynov & Brygadyrenko, 2017;Kozak & Brygadyrenko, 2018;Lieshchova et al, 2018Lieshchova et al, , 2019Marenkov, 2018b;Fedonenko et al, 2018Fedonenko et al, , 2019Ananieva & Shapovalenko, 2019).…”
