The influence of the China GLIM standards on the diagnosis of malnutrition in patients with hematopoietic stem cell transplant

Abstract: BackgroundThe muscle-related indicator is removed from Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria implemented in China for many reasons. Patients with hematopoietic stem cell transplants are at nutrition risk and can enter into the second step of GLIM; thus, they are suitable for learning the diagnosing malnutrition significance between primary GLIM and GLIM-China criteria. This article aims to explore the role of muscle mass in the diagnostic criteria of malnutrition and the effects of GLIM-… Show more

“…In lymphoma and leukemia patients, the prevalence of malnutrition significantly differs between different types of blood malignancies ( 28 , 35 ). In China, Guo et al ( 36 ) evaluated the prevalence of malnutrition based on the GLIM criteria in 98 HSCT candidate patients, which was 80.6%. One of the possible reasons for the difference in the results of the current study with the results of Guo et al’s ( 35 ) study was the difference in the ethnicity of the study cohort.…”

“…ASPEN and European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN) recommendations declare that all HSCT patients should be screened for malnutrition; however, there is no general agreement on how to assess malnutrition in this group of patients. Indicating contrast, the nutritional status of HSCT patients may be evaluated by MUST (Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool), NRS-2002 (Nutritional Risk Screening 2002), MNA-short Form (MNA-SF), or The Malnutrition Screening Tool [ 33 , 34 , 35 , 36 , 37 ]. Due to simple accessibility, NRS-2002 is strongly advised by ESPEN [ 38 ].…”
