The influence of the hypoglycemic agent glycorazmulin on the functional state of mitochondria in the rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetes

Abstract: We have studied the state of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (MPTP), respiration, and oxidative phosphorylation in mitochondria of the liver and pancreas of the rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetes. In addition, we considered the approaches to the correction of membraneous lesions with the help of glycorazmulin, a hypoglycemic preparation based on mumiyo (Jew's tar) and an extract from rhodiola roots and tubers (Rhodiola Semenovii A.). The mitochondria swelling rate in the liver and pancrea… Show more

“…The aging of organism is accompanied by structural and functional modifications of macromolecules [70]. The changes that occur in the tissues of the organism under the development of diabetes mellitus are investigated both in laboratory animals using experimental models [9][10][11]17, 39, 40, 42, 45-47, [71][72][73][74][75][76][77] and directly in patients in the course of clinical examination [12,35,[78][79][80][81][82][83][84][85][86][87].…”

“…A single doze varies from 50 to 200 mg/kg of body mass for mice and from 40 to 200 mg/kg for rats, depending on the breed [9,10,42]. Alloxan is injected intravenously, intraperitoneally, or subcutaneously [10,42,76].…”

“…In diabetes, the number of free fatty acids and various phospholipids increases in mitochondria (Sakamoto et al, 2000). In diabetes, along with the study of degenerative alterations in pancreatic β-cells, the study of mitochondrial liver disorders and their correction by plant substances is an important urgent problem (Asrarov et al, 2014). Since the study of ATP synthesis and ion transport systems in mitochondria as a source of cellular energy is considered extremely important in illuminating the mechanisms of diabetes and their treatment.…”

“…In the cell, such "targets" are mitochondrial membranes and structures localized in them, primarily the respiratory chain and mPTP) [1,2]. The role of mPTP is being actively discussed in the development of various pathologies, in particular, diabetes [3]. The formation of reactive oxygen species in the cell and the excessive activation of free radical oxidation processes underlie the development of diabetes mellitus [4,5].…”
