The influence of the surrounding space on the lighting conditions in a photographic scene

Abstract: Lighting conditions are one of the most important factors for good photographic exposure. In enclosed spaces, like a photography studio, we can control the light in several ways. We can adjust the type of light source, the shape of the light source, its intensity, and in some cases the colour temperature of the emitted light. The distance of the light source from the observed photographic scene affects the amount of light that reaches the desired target, and therefore the actual lighting conditions on the phot… Show more

“…To obtain a shadow produced by a light source, we set up a test scene including a projection plane, an occluder, a light source and a camera. The test scene was set in a darkroom to fully exclude ambient light and minimize environmental effects [32]. The scheme of the test scene is shown in Fig.…”

“…Innovations in light-shaping attachments for studio photography have revolutionised the way photographers manipulate light, offering a wide range of tools and techniques to achieve the desired lighting effects and enhance the visual impact of their photographs. These innovations have not only expanded the creative possibilities of photographers, but have also contributed to the standardisation and efficiency of studio photography practices and the way we define the surrounding space on the lightning conditions in a photographic scene [29].…”

“…The test scene was set up in a darkroom -a confined space with black walls to minimise the possible influence of the surrounding space on the recorded measurements [29]. The tested light source was placed in the centre of the room with the lamp head facing forward.…”
