The inhibition activity of lemongrass extract (LGE) for mild steel acid corrosion: Electrochemical, surface and theoretical investigations

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this paper is to minimize corrosion-related pollution in the environment. From the lemongrass extract (LGE), the authors selected one of the best green inhibitors. Design/methodology/approach The corrosion and inhibition of mild steel in traditional acidification solutions were estimated by electrochemical measurements. The corrosion appearance was observed with scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy micrographs and attenuated total reflectance infrared spectroscopy spec… Show more

“…Inhibition efficiencies were determined as 95.9, 98.0 and 97.7% from polarization measurement for 250 ppm DMeHT, DHMeT and TH 3 containing solution, respectively. DG o ads values were calculated as À35.89, À37.86 and À34.33 kJmol À1 for DMeHT, DHMeT and TH 3 containing solution, respectively (El-Faham et al, 2016).…”

“…Adsorption onto the metal surface through these functional groups forms a protective film on metal that isolates the metal from aggressive environments (Kuznetsov, 2015). In addition to structural property of an inhibitor, toxicity and environmental impact are other important factors in the selection of an inhibitor (El-Katori and Hashem, 2022; Xia et al , 2020; Pan et al , 2020).…”
