The Innovative Model of Runway Sustainable Management on Smaller Regional Airports

Abstract: Airport runways are exposed to large traffic loads and other external factors which cause their transformation. Monitoring the state of the unevenness and determining the runway defectiveness is a complex procedure which includes fast and qualitative measurements of the execution of flatness, their evaluation and the determination of the level of runway defectiveness. For this purpose, an improved process of determining airport runway defectiveness is proposed, based on geodetic survey and the management infor… Show more

“…Detecting deformations and determining their shape and dimensions are complex processes that require an interdisciplinary approach [42][43][44][45][46]. Recently, automated acquisition and processing of spatial data on road and runway deformations has been the subject of much research [47][48][49][50][51][52][53].…”

“…The measurement was performed using geodetic equipment such as the technology of the robotic total station RTS and GNSS technology: We had a 360 • prism and a GNSS receiver installed on a specially designed unsprung vehicle. In the article [51,52], we described a detailed data capture with geodetic equipment. The determination of the position of deformations was carried out based on the established geodetic network, which provides a geometric basis.…”

“…Finally, it has been widely established that regional airports are economically sustainable if there is a significant use of the infrastructure, or else they would be a problem rather than a resource for its region [106,107]. Although the existence of advances in new models of sustainable management of small airports [108], which should be applicated in such airport, its viability could depend on this link to the HSR system. In this case, Cáceres could be considered as a peripherical airport for Madrid.…”

“…In the present research and also in [36,37], we have, with the help of newly established models for measuring and assessing the airport infrastructure, and with the help of the made prototype for the runway management maintenance, examined the possibility to consider the already established and the ICAO regulated safety demands. They are based on the physical testing of the runway state and those demanded methods cannot be uniquely used in the computer environment.…”
