The intensity and energy expenditure of exertions, restitution speed, and rate of perceived exertion after tournament matches in Polish futsal players

Abstract: Purpose. Futsal is a very dynamic indoor team sport. Like in soccer, futsal players perform a number of efforts of different intensity during a match. In each match there are a few return substitutions to allow players to have some rest. The aim of the study was to assess the intensity and energy expenditure of single efforts and the dynamics of restitution after the efforts during successive futsal matches. Methods. The study consisted in measuring the players' (n = 11) heart rate (Hr) during four matches: A,… Show more

“…Similar exercise intensities, i.e. 85-90% Hrmax, in four consecutive soccer matches were noted by Wolań-ski et al [4]. cometti [12] claims that in soccer, explosive exercises constitute only 5%, whereas low-and medium-intensity ones amount to 60% of the total playing time.…”

“…This may lead to the increased likelihood of residual fatigue, risk of injury, significant strength deficits, and reduced physical performance due to decreased time for proper physical recovery ( Page et al, 2023 ). It was found that futsal athletes experienced a decrease in the intensity of their efforts, as measured by %HR max , towards the end of a tournament where they played four games over two days ( Wolański et al, 2017 ). The studies mentioned above suggest that fatigue resulting from previous matches significantly impacts players' performance, especially during congested schedules.…”
