This article examines two of the most significant Italian political movements at the turn of the twentieth century-anarchism and Futurism. Although these movements shared a common vocabulary and rhetoric, they contrasted sharply in their aims and objectives. I address three interrelated questions: How were these movements and their ideologies related to, and perceived by, the ruling elites? What were their mutual influences and inspirational centre? Resumo: As redes transnacionais criadas pelos ativistas anarquistas, especialmente entre o fim do XIX e início do XX são bastante conhecidas da historiografia. No caso do anarquismo italiano, devido às fortes perseguições políticas sofridas na última década do século XIX, a transnacionalidade do movimento constitui-se em regra. A vinda de imigrantes anarquistas para o Brasil faz parte dessa história transatlântica. Em São Paulo, o encontro de anarquistas italianos permitiu a criação de grupos de afinidade articulados em rede que foram muito profícuas para a propaganda. Um desses esforços gerou o periódico "La Battaglia" (1904-1913), talvez o principal meio de difusão do anarquismo no Brasil no início do século XX.

“…Disparate incidents and attacks were framed as a homogeneous and solid threat, to 'a grand plan to destroy Western civilization and obliterate all the monarchs and ruling heads of state and government in Europe and the Americas (if not the entire globe)'. 15 Anarchist violence was linked to larger social problems of (moral) decay and disorder and used to discredit socialist opposition at home. Moreover, the incessant wave of attacks in the 1890s was appropriated to mobilize support for the already ongoing but haphazard expansion and professionalization of police and security forces.…”
