The invasive alien species Amorpha fruticosa in Bulgaria and its potential as economically prospective source of valuable essential oil

Abstract: The high tolerance of various habitat conditions and potent propagation ability of Amorpha fruticosa L. (Fabaceae) promote its aggressive invasive behaviour. The aim of this study is to evaluate 1) several populations of this plant by the potential yield of the fruit, 2) the approximate yield of the essential oils, and 3) composition of the essential oil. The potential yield of fruit is evaluated based on extrapolations of weight and number of fruits per infrutescence, number of infrutescences per pl… Show more

“…A recent paper identified 22 components in the A. fruticosa EO, with the main compounds caryophyllene (17.64%), α -guaiene (14.70%), and γ -muurolene (5.98%). Moreover, Kozuharova et al have reported the naphthalene presence (6.75%) that was undetected in our samples [ 23 ]. Other studies have shown similar results regarding the presence of δ-cadinene and γ-muurolene as major constituents of the A. fruticosa fruits EO [ 9 , 12 ].…”

“…Other significant compounds include E-β-ocimene, terpinen-4-ol, caryophyllene, carvacrol, lavandulyl acetate, (Z)-β-farnesene, and (Z)-β-ocimene. These constituents play a crucial role in determining the quality of the EO [30]. Rosemary EO is characterized by its key compounds like eucalyptol (9.48% to 12.58%).…”
