Abstract:Phormidium lacuna , a filamentous cyanobacterium without heterocysts, can be transformed by natural transformation. These filaments are motile on agar and other surfaces and display rapid lateral movements in liquid culture. Furthermore, they exhibit phototactic response under vertical illumination in Petri dishes.
