The Italian Version of the Inventory of Interpersonal Problems Personality Disorders Scales (IIP-47): Psychometric Properties and Clinical Usefulness as a Screening Measure

Abstract: The Inventory of Interpersonal Problems-47 (IIP-47) is a brief and valid self-report measure for screening Personality Disorders (PDs). This study examined internal consistency, factor structure, criterion validity, temporal stability, and operating characteristics of the Italian version of the IIP-47 in two independent samples: PD subjects (n = 120) and nonclinical subjects (n = 475). Alpha coefficients ranged from .70 to .90. Multiple-Group Confirmatory Factor Analyses showed that the five-correlated-factor … Show more

“…By dividing the two areas of personality “temperament” from “character” it combines person-centered aspects of general vulnerability and environment-centered aspects of dysfunctional influences and allows the evaluation of an individual’s current maturity in terms of impaired personality functioning. Thus, Cloninger’s model is ideally suited for investigating PD-related issues [59-62]. With the JTCI-R-family (Junior Temperament and Character Inventory) the concept can be assessed by questionnaire in adolescents (12–18 years) equivalent to the revised adult version TCI R with excellent results for reliabilities and validity [63,64].…”

“…The IIP-47 also provides separate scores on the five subscales, with the scores on the “interpersonal sensitivity” subscale being particularly relevant for our study. The IIP-47 has shown very good psychometric properties [22], as did the Italian version [23]. In the present study, its internal consistency was excellent, with Cronbach’s α = 0.98.…”
