The Kinome of Edible and Medicinal Fungus Wolfiporia cocos

Abstract: Wolfiporia cocos is an edible and medicinal fungus that grows in association with pine trees, and its dried sclerotium, known as Fuling in China, has been used as a traditional medicine in East Asian countries for centuries. Nearly 10% of the traditional Chinese medicinal preparations contain W. cocos. Currently, the commercial production of Fuling is limited because of the lack of pine-based substrate and paucity of knowledge about the sclerotial development of the fungus. Since protein kinase (PKs) play sign… Show more

“…The number of grapevine PKs (1,168) is similar to the numbers in Arabidopsis (1008), maize (1241), and tomato (1436), but significantly more than the number previously reported (877) in grapevine 2 , 40 , 44 . It is, however, much smaller than the number of PKs in soybean (2,166) 3 and larger than the kinomes in human 18 , mice 17 , oysters 45 , and the fungus Wolfiporia cocos 46 . The number of grapevine kinase families (121) (Fig.…”

“…Functionally, the INTF7 gene can be used as a stable reference gene in crops. α-Tubulin (ATU) was used as a universal reference gene in many fungi [ 64 , 65 ], but ATU1 was not the top preferred gene here. Based on the integrated data here and from other morel species, ACT1 and INTF7 were chosen as the prominent pair of genes for normalization in Morchella .…”
