Objectives This study aimed to identify the factors affecting the prevention of cross‐infection with coronavirus disease‐19 (COVID‐19) among Korean dental hygienists. Methods The level of knowledge about COVID‐19 (KNW CO ), level of awareness of infection control (AWR IC ), degree of performance for infection control (PRF IC ), and organizational factors for infection control (OFW IC ) of clinical dental hygienists in Korea to prevent COVID‐19 transmission were investigated. A self‐written online questionnaire was administered to dental hygienists currently working in dental clinics or hospitals, and the survey results of 263 participants were analysed. Pearson's correlation coefficients were calculated for relationships between the KNW CO , AWR IC , PRF IC , and OFW IC . Multiple linear regression analysis was performed to identify the factors affecting the PRF IC . Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. Results Knowledge about COVID‐19, AWR IC , PRF IC , and OFW IC were significantly correlated with each other. OFW IC ( β = 0.491, p < 0.001), followed by AWR IC ( β = 0.428, p < 0.001) and KNW CO ( β = 0.095, p = 0.013), had the greatest impact on PRF IC with regard to the prevention of COVID‐19 transmission. Conclusions Organizational factors for infection control and AWR IC should be strengthened to improve PRF IC and prevent COVID‐19 transmission during dental care.

Objective:The purpose of this study is to minimize dental infection in hospitals and develop infection control curriculum programs.Methods: By investigating the perception and practice of dental infection management in clinical practice sites for dental hygiene students who have experienced clinical practice. It was implemented to provide basic data. A survey was conducted on dental hygiene students who actually experienced clinical practice at a three-year university in Gyeongbuk, and students who practiced in dentistry, dental hospitals, university hospitals, or general hospitals were classified to recognize the management of dental infections in each practice area. And the degree of practice were compared. Results:As a result of the study, students had a lot of experience in infection prevention education, but education was conducted in clinical practice sites rather than in schools, and the degree of practice of infection prevention management was higher in university hospitals or dental hospitals, and there were differences according to the practice sites. Conclusion:Therefore, in order for students to increase their awareness and practice of hepatitis management in clinical practice areas, infection control guidelines should be prepared in schools, distributed to clinical institutions, and managed through training personnel. Infection control education in connection with clinical practice in schools It is believed that education should be conducted by systematically preparing courses.

Impact factor of cognition and practice of infection control in the dental hygienists

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the cognition and practice of infection control in the dental hygienists. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 220 dental hygienists in Busan and Gyeongnam from August 1 to 31, 2014. The questionnaire was adapted from Nam. The questionnaire consisted of four questions of the general characteristics of the subjects, two questions of infection control factors, four questions of clinic environment, 50 questions of awareness of infection control, and 50 questions of infection control practice. Cronbach's alpha in the awareness of infection control was 0.958 and that in infection control practice was 0.950. Results: The dental hygienists in the large scale hospitals tended to have higher score of cognition and practice of infection control thatn those in the small scale hospitals(p<0.001). Small scale hospitals tended to have lower infection rate than the large scale hospitals. The education for the infection control guideline reduced the infection prevalence rate. Conclusions: In order to reduce the infection prevalence rate, it is necessary to educate the dental hygienists continuously and to provide the infection control guideline to the dental clinics.
