The Landscape of GIScience Publications 1997–2007: An Empirical Investigation with Latent Semantic Analysis

Abstract: This article reports on an empirical study of the trends and patterns of research activities in Geographic Information Science (GIScience) during the years 1997-2007. The GIScience research priorities identified by the University Consortium of Geographic Information Science (UCGIS) were used as guidelines to examine the 985 research articles published in six well-recognized academic journals. Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA) was employed to investigate the association among the different GIScience research theme… Show more

“…They are increasingly ensued by (c) a multiparadigmatic approach, which we will discuss in detail in Section "widening upa multidisciplinary and multiparadigmatic perspective." Like in other fields, scientists increasingly try to build their arguments on literature analyses or on other lists that can be derived from the topic areas of key GIScience conferences, such as the bi-annual GIScience conference series or the COSIT conferences (Fisher 2001;Caron et al 2008;Parr and Lu 2010;Kemp, Kuhn, and Brox 2012;Blaschke and Eisank 2012). Raper (2009, 74) comprehensively studied the field of GIScience, mainly examining its history and the main issues it addresses.…”

“…Public library of New York, the Library of the American Geographical Society at the University of Wisconsin, Harvard Library, Stanford University Library, Library of Congress κ.ά.).
