“…The low est con cen tra tions of K and the value of Th/K ra tio are con nected with a gradational tran sition from fa cies M2 to M3 and may be a sig nal of in creased humid ity in the source area (Rider, 1999). How ever, in agree ment with the var ied li thol ogy as well as with the micropalaeontological re cord, vari able rain fall is ex pected to cor re spond with ex treme cli mate events de duced from the strongly neg a tive ex cur sions in d 18 O and d 13 C in the Ostrea isotope ar chive (Harzhauser et al, 2011) and from the ir reg u lar ap pear ance of clastic in ter ca la tions in lime stone bod ies (Holcová et al, 2015). These in sta bil i ties may be re flected by the ir reg u lar pat tern of the Th, U and Th/K ra tios.…”

“…At the base of the in ter val, the LO of Helicosphaera waltrans was re corded. The event can be cor related with the first sig nals of the Mid dle Mio cene Cli ma tic Transi tion man i fested in the study area by de creased riverine in put due to aridification caus ing in crease in sa lin ity and de crease in nu tri ents (Holcová et al, 2015) which can cor re spond with palaeoenvironmental changes rep re sented in the up per part of the in ter val. The re sults of gamma spec trom e try are very sim i lar in the lower in ter val i.e.…”

“…The unstable conditions are corroborated by strongly dominating Reticulo fenestra minuta as an environmental stress indicator. Size reduction in helicosphaeras (large Helicosphaera waltras is gradually substituted by small Helicosphaera walbersdorfensis, e.g., Holcová et al 2015) is probably also a response to instability during the warm season. The lower abundance of Coccolithus pelagicus can be explained by fewer nutrients.…”

“…2): initial Late Badenian transgression and establishment of shallow marine environments, start of regression and environmental stress in the uppermost Late Badenian and final regression and emersion at the Badenian/Sarmatian boundary. During wet periods marginal shelf deposits of the Paratethys are characterized by coarse clastics, while the carbonate-siliciclastic complexes are known only in some intervals which were dry (Moissette et al 2007;Holcová et al 2015). Marginal facies are present at the Borovnjak locality and they are assigned to the Ammonia beccarii ecozone.…”
