The level of vascular endothelial cell growth factor, nitric oxide, and endothelin-1 was correlated with ovarian volume or antral follicle counts: A potential predictor of pregnancy outcome in IVF

Abstract: The objective of this study was to investigate the correlation between the concentrations of vascular endothelial cell growth factor (VEGF), nitric oxide (NO), or endothelin-1 (ET-1) in follicular fluid with antral follicle counts (AFCs) or ovarian volume in order to predict the outcome of in vitro fertilization (IVF). One hundred and thirty-one patients were enrolled in this study, and the pregnancy rate was 37.4%. The concentration of VEGF or NO was significantly increased, while the concentration of ET-1 in… Show more

“…ET-1 also can induce expression of the TGF-β receptor 1 and 2 genes, suggesting an important role for ET-1 in the establishment and progression of tissue fibrosis. It has been reported[ 18 ] that the ovarian volume and antral follicle count are positively correlated with the concentration of VEGF and negatively correlated with the concentration of ET-1 in follicular fluid. However, there are few studies on ovarian fibrosis and VEGF or ET-1, but they are important cytokines in ovarian fibrosis and further research is necessary into their specific mechanisms and possible role in treatment.…”

“…Interestingly, HABP2 is one of the few genes identified in a number of studies in receptive endometrium (24, 45, 53). Vascular endothelial growth factor A synthesis by blastocysts has been demonstrated (61,62), and its expression level in follicular fluid has been correlated with pregnancy outcome in in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment (63). Integrins are expressed by both blastocyst-derived trophoblast cells and endometrial epithelial cells and are intimately involved in mediating embryo adhesion (59,60,64).…”

“…It plays an important role in regulating reproductive hormone secretion, animal reproductive function, muscle contraction, and cell mitosis. Zhao believes that ET-mediated local vascular regulation disorders and microcirculation disturbances may affect physiological reproductive organ functions [21].…”
