“…It thus remains questionable if the reported changes are indeed solely tinnitus-related. Mirz et al (2000a) later showed that administration of lidocaine resulted in a decrease of rCBF in the superior frontal gyrus, the middle frontal gyrus and associative auditory regions in the right hemisphere, as well as a decrease in parts of the limbic system (amygdala, anterior cingulate gyrus) in the left hemisphere (Morgane and Mokler, 2006). The authors concluded based on these results that, in addition to auditory areas, areas associated with emotion and attention play a role in tinnitus.…”

“…Rosene et al (2004) have shown that restraint stress for 20 min increases c-Fos expression in the anterior cingulate cortex and medial prefrontal cortices of malnourished animals greater than animals exposed to a control diet. Since the complex functions of learning and memory are widely distributed (Morgane et al, 2005;Morgane and Mokler, 2006), this suggests that other brain areas in addition to the hippocampal formation are impacted by protein malnutrition during the prenatal period. In order to investigate this hypothesis further we have used dual-probe in vivo microdialysis to examine the release of 5-HT in the mPFC and dorsal hippocampus of adult rats exposed to prenatal protein malnutrition.…”

“…Hence neurophysiologists are still actively engaged in refining and suggesting newer explanations of the emotional processing system. A keen reader with a background in neuroanatomy can find several other published resources similar to [2], [8], [9], [10].…”
