The Low-Temperature Transport Properties of NbSe2

Abstract: The resistivity and Hall effect of single crystals of the two-layer structure of NbSe2 were measured from about 5° to 300°K. A sign change was observed in the Hall coefficient at about 26°K; above this temperature the samples were p type, and below, n type.

“…All of them exceed the θ D  = 150 K of the NbSe 2 single crystal30. Furthermore, Debye temperatures of about 200 K are typical for MLCs containing Nb X 2 20232526 and 240(3) K has been reported for the (SnSe) 1.16 (NbSe 2 ) ferecrystal31.…”

“…Given the multiband nature of the system, this is likely to indicate significant removal of DOS at the Fermi surface upon the magnetic ordering, leaving only small patches of hole character below T N . Similarly, drastic removals of DOS with associated sign changes in R H was observed at the CDW transitions in NbSe 2 (8) and α-U (29).…”

“…They are a common aspect in cuprate superconductors (1,2), itinerant transition-metal magnets (3,4), and rare-earth compounds (5-7), as well as low-dimensional charge-ordered materials (8,9) and perovskite manganites (10,11). In contrast with commensurate density waves, the incommensurate states are often electronically soft (11), and many spin and charge orders in metals are continuously tunable (9,12).…”

“…The ratio ρ ab (300 K)/ρ ab (7.5 K) = 43, is close to the ones found in the best crystals. 15 The inplane electronic mean free path close to T C0 , ℓ ab ≈ 1830 A, was estimated from the in-plane residual resistivity and from the carriers concentration 15 by using a Drudemodel relation. The resistivity anisotropy is found to be ρ c /ρ ab ∼ 10 2 , which leads to an electronic mean free path in the c direction of ℓ c ∼ 20Å.…”
