The means-end cognitions of perceived information quality in academic social networking sites

Abstract: Academic social networking sites (ASNS) have received substantial attention in recent years. The information quality of academic resources is vital to users. In order to improve the users’ information quality experience, it is necessary to understand how users perceive information quality in ASNS and what factors or relations affect their results of information quality perception. Drawing on the approach of the means-end chain, our study implemented a laddering interviews with ASNS users. We both elucidated va… Show more

“…One of the research challenges in Web information evaluation is a wide variety of studies and approaches that have led to several different methodologies. Most research studies have used computational and quantitative approaches (Shen et al, 2019;Mansour, 2018;Gao et al, 2015;Chu et al, 2018;Sohn and Choi, 2019), and some have applied qualitative methods (Madden et al, 2012;Cader, 2013;O'Reilly and Marx, 2011) or mixed methods (Zhang and Yuan, 2019). There exists a wide range of research conducted in different fields of study, which here are categorized into two sections related to online health and non-health information evaluation.…”

“…Considering the role and effect of the credibility of information available on the Web on the levels of trust, decision-making and activity for student users, it is, therefore, necessary to investigate the process of assessing online information. Importantly, research findings indicate the widespread use of and trust in Web information compared to traditional resources (Zhang and Yuan, 2019). A new generation of Web and social networks in which users have more freedom to create content as quickly and easily as possible has added to the complexity of the issue (Sohn and Choi, 2019;Klawitter and Hargittai, 2018;Jacobs et al, 2017).…”

“…Zhao et al (2018) employed MECs theory to explore the factors that contribute to the churn of social networking site users. Zhang and Yuan (2020) used the theory to determine which resource factors affect the perceived quality of information on academic social networking sites. Al‐Abdullatif and Aladsani (2021) discovered that academic social networking sites have seven key attributes that enable users to obtain 10 benefits and that are associated with nine values.…”
