“…Although CrCl has been shown to overestimate the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) in ESRD patients because of the increased tubular secretion of creatinine, it is well correlated to inulin clearance and is much simpler to measure. 26 We believe that the use of the calculated daily urine CrCl (or conversion to weekly urine CrCl) instead of the estimated GFR is simpler in clinical practice.…”

“…They reported a good correlation with inulin clearance in the animal model (ratio 51 Cr-EDTA/inulin was 0,95) (Stacy & Thorburn, 1966). The first scientists who will be interested in GFR measurement by 51 Cr-EDTA in humans are English (Garnett et al, 1967;Favre & Wing, 1968;Garnett et al, 1967;Heath et al, 1968;Lavender et al, 1969). It must be underlined that nearly all studies published on this marker are coming from Europe because 51 Cr-EDTA is not available in USA (not approved by the FDA) (Brandstrom et al, 1998).…”

“…The methods have been (1977) Normal adult values: (Based upon total chromgen analysis of creatinine) Males: Creatinine clearance (ml/min) = 143.5 -1.095 x age (years) Females: Creatinine clearance (ml/min) = 119.5 -0.915 x age (years) (Bjornsson, 1979) reviewed by Bianci (1972) and Cohen (1974). 5"Cr-EDTA in particular became the preferred substance due to its reliability and the extremely high correlation with inulin clearance (Brochner-Mortensen,, Giese & Rossing, 1969;Lavender et al, 1969;Chantler et al, 1969;Hagstam et al, 1974). EDTA clearance and other methods which avoid the need for urine collection can be performed by the constant infusion technique or by the single injection technique.…”
