The Measurement Precision and Accuracy of T1 Mapping Using Polarity Corrected (PC) TI Prep Tool

Abstract: SummaryThe aim of this study was to evaluate the measurement precision and accuracy of T1 mapping using a polarity corrected (PC) TI prep tool, which was based on fast field echo (FFE) and obtained one data point with one inversion recovery (IR) pulse. A phantom was used consisting of eight materials with different Gd concentrations. T1 mappings were measured by changing the trigger interval and the inversion time (TI) interval. The T1 mapping measurement precision using the PC TI prep tool increased as the tr… Show more

“…This is mainly due to potentially shorter IR pulse intervals and two transient changes in the observed longitudinal relaxation due to shortening and fluctuations in the RR interval. 21,22 We devised an analysis using a recurrence formula to overcome this problem in the PCTIP method and showed that it improved the measurement accuracy, especially at high heart rates. 23 At the same time, that report did not clarify the effect of irregular heart rate variability, and this work examines the effect of this analysis method on this effect.…”

“…Phase correction of PCTIP was performed as in PSIR MOLLI, according to a previous report. 21 The polarity of the longitudinal relaxation curve was restored using the real component of the complex signals after correcting for the phase error, whereas T1 analysis was performed from the estimated T1 relaxation curve.…”

“…We used a novel pulse sequence for T1 mapping and the values cannot be compared directly with other pulse sequences. The intrinsic measurement errors of this pulse sequence compared with conventional inversion-recovery spin-echo for T1 measurements were evaluated in phantom studies and estimated a low mean measurement error of 7.4 ± 3.8 % [48,49].…”
