“…Aerosol particles formed during the combustion of wood doped with ZnO and HCl have been shown to contain ZnO, ZnCl 2 , and ZnSO 4 , 19 whereas K 2 ZnCl 4 has been identified in aerosols formed during the combustion of MSW. 20 In deposits, zinc has been identified as ZnCl 2 and ZnO in the combustion of RWW 3,19,21 and as ZnSO 4 15 and K 2 ZnCl 4 9,13 in the combustion of MSW. Lead has been identified in deposits from RWW combustion as PbO 3,21 and PbCl 2 21 and in deposits from waste combustion as PbO, 3,15,21 PbCl 2 , 21 PbSO 4 , 15 PbO 3 PbSO 4 , 15 4PbO 3 PbSO 4 , 15 and K 2 Pb(SO 4 ) 2 .…”

“…In both studied cases, the fuels had been burned in fluidized boilers where the bed contained quartz and feldspar, and therefore, it is likely that the zinc in the fuel has reacted with the bed material. Zn 2 SiO 4 , ZnAl 2 O 4 , and Zn(OH) 2 have also been found in fly ash samples from combustion of wood and waste. , Moreover, ZnCl 2 and Zn 5 (OH) 6 (CO 3 ) 2 have been identified in fly ash from waste combustion. , Speciation of zinc compounds in aerosol particles formed during circulating fluidized-bed (CFB) combustion of wood doped with ZnO with and without the addition of HCl was performed by Åmand et al In both cases, ZnO, ZnCl 2 , and ZnSO 4 could be identified in the aerosol particles. The proportion of chlorides was increased, and the proportion of sulfates was decreased when HCl was added.…”

“…Spiegel, however, observed accelerated corrosion at 600 °C under deposits containing ZnSO 4 and PbSO 4 in combination with alkali sulfates and calcium sulfate. One suggested reason for the high corrosivity of deposits containing zinc or lead chloride is the low melting point of these deposits. ,,− The presence of zinc and lead in deposits is known to lower the melting temperature of the deposit, but the influence on the melting temperature depends upon the chemical speciation of zinc and lead in the deposit; chlorides lower the melting point drastically, whereas, e.g., oxides do not have the same effect.…”
