The mid-Cambrian (Series 3, Drumian–Guzhangian; Marjuman) trilobite Holmdalia Robison, 1988, in western Newfoundland and its biostratigraphic significance

Abstract: Holmdalia Robison, 1988 (Family Marjumiidae), was proposed as a monotypic taxon that occurred in mid-Cambrian outer shelf settings in New York and Greenland, with a subsequent report from northwestern Canada. New collections from the Shallow Bay Formation of western Newfoundland record a succession of at least seven species that spans most of the Drumian and all of the Guzhangian stages, and demonstrate that the genus has considerable, previously unrecognized biostratigraphic potential. Older, Drumian species,… Show more

The trilobite faunas remain under study, but recently described species from the same part of the succession at White Rock Islets include the dolichometopid Rasettiella soreghanarum Wernette and Westrop, 2016, and the marjumiids Holmdalia palpebra Dengler, 2017, andH. tenega Westrop andDengler, 2017.…”

The associated agnsotoids and trilobites indicate clearly that E. coloholcus is from Drumian strata that most likely correlate into the uppermost Mawddachites hicksii or lower Paradoxides davidis zones, and the uppermost Ptychagnostus atavus or lower Ptychagnostus punctuosus agnostoid zones (see also Wernette and Westrop 2016).…”
