The mini‐resectoscope: A new instrument for office hysteroscopic surgery

Abstract: The mini-resectoscope appears to be an efficient and acceptable instrument for hysteroscopic surgery and can be used without general anesthesia for minor procedure such as polypectomy and the resection of small submucous fibroids.

“…Outpatient hysteroscopy has been used successfully for diagnostic purposes and for see-and-treat philosophy, as is evident from many papers on the subject -by Bettocchi et al, [15] Spiezio et al, [16] Papalampros et al [17] and Cicinelli et al [18,19] Hysteroscopy is a very useful modality in the diagnosis of varying grades of adhesions in genital tuberculosis, as has been seen in our experience. [20] In the present study, randomization was done in the 3 groups: group I receiving combination of oral drotaverine hydrochloride and mefenamic acid 1 hour before the procedure; group II receiving 10 mL of 1% lignocaine hydrochloride paracervically 5 minutes before the procedure; and group III receiving intravenous diazepam and pentazocine 10 minutes before the procedure.…”

“…Miniresectoscopes (16 Fr or 5.3 mm) which have been developed on the basis of paediatric resectoscopes have been used by some groups to resect submucosal fibroids in the outpatient setting [8]. This device allows procedures to be carried out with little or no cervical dilatation and is suitable for resection of relatively small fibroids using the traditional resection technique.…”

“…1 Serosa-serosa type stitches to close the nest fibroid hysteroscopic intervention for practical reasons: this way the justification of diagnosis of perforation, its treatment, the suction of the distending fluid from the abdominal cavity and the impediment of its absorption from the peritoneum become possible. In the case of infertile patients, the diameter of the resectoscope should be the smallest possible [1], in order to minimise the dilatation of the cervix, by which the risk of cervix incompetence at future possible pregnancy is also minimised.…”
