The mitochondrial genome of Dipetalonema gracile from a squirrel monkey in China

Abstract: Dipetalonema gracile is a common parasite in squirrel monkeys (Saimiri sciureus), which can cause malnutrition and progressive wasting of the host, and lead to death in the case of massive infection. This study aimed to identify a suspected D. gracile worm from a dead squirrel monkey by means of molecular biology, and to amplify its complete mitochondrial genome by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and sequence analysis. The results identified the worm as D. gracile, and the full length of its complete mitochond… Show more

“…Dipetalonema gracile is pathogenic for squirrel monkeys and may be found free in the peritoneal cavity or bound up in the mesentery (Zhang et al, 2020), as observed in the present case. However, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of D. gracile parasitism in S. flavius.…”

“…Phytochemicals, also referred to as phytobiotics or phytogenics, are natural bioactive products derived from plants. They include mainly essential oils [1], flavonoids [2], terpenes [3], polysaccharides [4], and phenolic acid [5]. Currently, phytochemicals were studied widely because of their multiple functions in human and animal health [6,7].…”

“…Molecular marker with high speci city represents an essential genetic tool, which could be used for rapid species identi cation and as an effective complement to traditional classi cation methods (Hebert et al, 2003;Zhang et al, 2018). The ITS sequence have been proven as speci c genetic markers that can not only be used for the rapid detection of parasites but also have diverse applications in analyzing parasites polymorphism and genetic variation (Zhu et al,1998;Shamsi et al, 2008).…”
