The mitochondrial transcriptome of the anglerfish Lophius piscatorius

Abstract: ObjectiveAnalyze key features of the anglerfish Lophius piscatorius mitochondrial transcriptome based on high-throughput total RNA sequencing.ResultsWe determined the complete mitochondrial DNA and corresponding transcriptome sequences of L. piscatorius. Key features include highly abundant mitochondrial ribosomal RNAs (10–100 times that of mRNAs), and that cytochrome oxidase mRNAs appeared > 5 times more abundant than both NADH dehydrogenase and ATPase mRNAs. Unusual for a vertebrate mitochondrial mRNA, the p… Show more

“…Primers were designed using National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) primer‐BLAST, and target mitomiRs were selected based on a miRanda analysis using the NCBI zebrafish mitochondrion and miRbase database profile for zebrafish. All zebrafish miRNAs were aligned to all zebrafish mitochondrial mRNAs and rRNAs, because most fish mitochondrial mRNAs are polycistronic and do not have 3′ untranslated regions (Coucheron et al, 2011; Dubin et al, 2019). The three mitomiRs quantified were selected based on their high miRanda scores for their target mRNA (see the Supporting Infromation for the miRanda analysis).…”
