The modeling research of Magnetorheological Damper in advanced intelligent prosthesis

Abstract: Magnetorheological Damper is a kind of semi-active intelligent driving device that has a broad prospect. This paper carries on the dynamic characteristics test of the Magnetorheological Damper, establishes the amendment Sigmoid Magnetorheological Damper model of Intelligent Prosthesis, and the test results show that the theoretical model has fitted the actual value of the characteristic parameters of the Magnetorheological Damper.

“…Dynamic models can be classified as parametric or nonparametric (Li and Liu, 2009, Mughal, 2017; Rahman et al, 2017). Parametric modeling methods assume a finite set of system parameters independent of any observed data (Elsaady et al, 2020).…”

“…As such, the analytical expressions are derived from experimental data and the physical analysis of the MR device (Rossi et al, 2018). Although nonparametric models are more complex and still rare in prosthetic device models, these models can be robust and applicable to linear, nonlinear, and hysteretic systems (Li and Liu, 2009, Lv et al, 2021; Wang and Liao, 2011). Neural networks have become a popular approach to providing nonparametric modeling for structural mechanics with MRF (Lv et al, 2021).…”

“…A piston, or damper, filled with this type of fluid provides a continuously variable damping force controlled by a desired input. 4 In our project we used a commercially available magnetorheological piston from Lord Corporation. In this device, the magnetic field through the magnetorheological fluid is induced by an electric current, which is the control input to adjust the damping coefficient of the system.…”
